Why we open-sourced $795 in HubSpot themes

After 16 years as a HubSpot partner and over 24,000 customers served, we walked away from the partnership. When we left, so did our marketplace listings. We weren't ready to let thousands of development hours on premium themes head straight for the graveyard. Open-sourcing everything was the only move that made sense.

This is more than just a free download. Marketplace themes are read-only once installed in HubSpot — locked files, child theme workarounds, no version control. When you clone the source from GitHub, you own every file. Edit modules, override styles, restructure templates. Track changes in Git, deploy through CI/CD, work in your own IDE. These themes were built to be extended, and now nothing is stopping you.

We're building the next generation of web infrastructure that's open-source, AI-native, fully owned by the people who use it. These themes are a reflection of our commitment to a newfound way of building the web.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about using these free themes.

Yes. Every theme is MIT licensed. Previously paid themes ($49–$299) are now free with no restrictions. Download the source files or clone from GitHub.
Absolutely. The MIT license means you can use them for personal sites, client projects, or commercial purposes. No attribution required, though we appreciate it.
Lynton no longer offers theme support through the HubSpot marketplace. However, each theme has extensive documentation on this site, and the community can contribute fixes and improvements via GitHub.
Yes. Every theme has its own GitHub repository. Fork it, submit PRs, report issues — standard open-source workflow.
These themes work with HubSpot CMS Hub Starter, Professional, and Enterprise. Some advanced features like custom modules with HubDB require Professional or above.
All Lynton themes are built with accessibility in mind. They support keyboard navigation, screen readers, and follow WCAG guidelines. Color and contrast are configurable through theme settings.
Yes — and this is the key advantage over marketplace-installed themes. Marketplace themes are read-only in HubSpot, requiring child theme workarounds to change anything. With source code, you edit files directly in your IDE, track changes in Git, and deploy via CI/CD. Customize modules, override styles, restructure templates — no locked files, no subscription-gated child theme limits.
Marketplace themes are read-only once installed — you can't edit templates, modules, or stylesheets directly. HubSpot's child theme workaround requires manually cloning individual assets and is limited by your subscription tier (1 child theme on Starter, 5 on Pro, 10 on Enterprise). With the source code, you get full read/write access to every file. Edit modules, override styles, restructure templates — no cloning workarounds, no subscription limits, no locked files.
That's a real tradeoff. Marketplace themes receive automatic updates from the developer, but those updates deploy in-place with no staging environment, no diff preview, and no rollback. If an update breaks your site, you're stuck. With source code on GitHub, you control when and how to incorporate upstream changes. You can review diffs, test in a development portal, and merge on your own schedule — or fork and diverge entirely.
