5 Nonprofit Websites That Will Inspire You

Nonprofits take on significant missions, and so do their websites. Your nonprofit site serves as the online face of your organization, with functions that include attracting visitors and generating donations. The most effective nonprofit websites provide mobile-friendly accessibility, streamlined donation pages, straightforward navigation and a growth-driven design that allows for continuous testing and improvement – all while showcasing the organization in a captivating way.

If your site is lacking any of the above, it may be time for a redesign to help increase your nonprofit’s success. These five sites can provide just the inspiration you need to move forward.

Habitat EBSV

Habitat East Bay/Silicon Valley is a regional affiliate of the global nonprofit housing organization Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity EBSV is focused on making affordable housing a reality in California’s Bay Area, already helping more than 8,000 area residents with home ownership, home repairs and home counseling services.

Why the Site Inspires

A recent streamlined redesign by LyntonWeb ensured this site looks as good as it functions. The redesigned site features striking photos and easy-to-read text, along with even easier navigation options.

The site was revamped to accommodate three specific targets: the volunteer, the donor and the applicant, or those looking for Habitat help. Each persona can quickly identify where they need to go on the site, while a prominent donation button gives all visitors a clear contribution option.

Greenpeace

Since its establishment in 1971, Greenpeace has been all about a green and peaceful future. The global campaigning organization aims to achieve this through engaging communications and peaceful protest to both expose worldwide environmental issues and promote solutions.

Why the Site Inspires

Greenpeace may be a well-known organization, but that doesn’t mean it skimped on its website. High-resolution photos and bold headlines capture attention. The site’s homepage also manages to showcase important statistics in a highly accessible and impactful manner. Multiple donate CTAs on the homepage ensure visitors can’t miss the chance to do so.

Movember Foundation

The Movember Foundation is dedicated to men’s health issues on a global scale, helping to combat prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health issues. While its work happens all year long, the foundation is best known for its annual nonprofit fundraising campaign of Movember. Men are encouraged to grow moustaches each November to help raise awareness for the cause.

Why the Site Inspires

The Movember site does a brilliant job of showing nonprofit fundraising can be fun. From the captivating video banner on the homepage to the stunning images of supporters throughout the site, the foundation catches the visitor’s attention in a delightful way.

Easy navigation lets you quickly pinpoint where you want to go, while facts about the cause are presented in short, easily digestible bursts. The teal donation button and white “join us” button in the upper right corner leave no doubt on how to get involved.

World Bicycle Relief

Founded in 2005, World Bicycle Relief (WBR) provides bicycles for students, entrepreneurs and healthcare workers across Africa, South America and Southeast Asia. The bicycles bring transportation and well as economic opportunities, as all are assembled in local areas and involve field mechanic training.

Why the Site Inspires

Crisp, concise and easy on the eyes, the WBR site is equally easy to navigate and use. The site takes advantage of the nonprofit inbound marketing strategy of storytelling, which it does largely through the use of striking photos and images.

Putting important statistics inside bicycle wheels is a creative and effective way to ensure the numbers aren’t missed, while a prominent red button encourages donations. Red is used throughout the site to draw the eye to areas where it should look first.

Sharing America’s Marrow

Colloquially known as SAM, Sharing America’s Marrow is a grassroots movement that encourages people across the nation to join the bone marrow donor registry so they may one day donate to someone in need. A 2015 road trip across the U.S. signed up more than 24,000 potential donors, and the organization’s efforts continue going strong.

Why the Site Inspires

Simple yet sophisticated, the SAM website exudes a warm, feel-good vibe. The minimal design lets visitors focus fully on the content, which includes a combination of photos, videos, illustration and heartfelt text that tells the story of the organization. Visitors can easily discover the various ways to get involved and support the movement.

While each of these nonprofit sites has a slightly different personality, they all feature an effective design and content that make them a success.
