What is the SKIP TO CONTENT Link I Sometimes Briefly See When a Page is Loading In?

Skip to Content is a necessary link for accessibility compliance that allows keyboard and screen reader users to skip past the navigation and directly to the content.

If a page takes time to load you may briefly see this link appear before the styling hides it away. Normally the link will only appear when tabbed to with the keyboard.

About This Feature

The “Skip to Content” link is an essential accessibility feature that’s automatically built into your HubSpot theme to ensure your website meets WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) compliance standards. This link serves users who navigate your site using keyboards or assistive technologies like screen readers, allowing them to bypass repetitive navigation elements and jump directly to the main content area of each page.

How It Functions in HubSpot

When you’re editing pages in the HubSpot page editor, you won’t typically interact with this feature directly since it operates behind the scenes. The link is positioned at the very top of your page’s HTML structure and remains visually hidden until a keyboard user presses the Tab key. At that point, it becomes visible and focusable, giving these users the option to skip past your site’s header navigation, search bars, and other repeated elements.

When You Might Notice It

During page loading, especially on slower connections or pages with heavy content modules, the skip link may briefly appear before the theme’s CSS fully loads and applies the proper hiding styles. This is completely normal behavior and doesn’t indicate any issues with your page setup or theme configuration.

Impact on Your Content Strategy

Understanding this feature helps when you’re structuring content in the drag-and-drop page editor. The skip link targets your main content area, so organizing your most important information in prominent content modules near the top of your page layout benefits all users. This is particularly valuable for landing pages, blog posts, and service pages where you want visitors to quickly access key information without navigating through extensive menus or sidebar elements.
